"Last Drop Stop"

Here is another Haunted Western piece i just finished. There will be three in this series. These are just prototypes. They are a little larger scale then the Ghost Town pieces so i will be redoing these to fit the scale to the buildings.

The base is made out of Plaster of Paris. I found that if you add some course sand to the plaster you will have more time to work with it and it also makes it more durable. To get the shape i want i first drew a pattern on a piece of typing paper. I then placed a layer of wax paper over my drawing. Pour the desired amount of plaster mixture to the size of the drawing and then with a spatula shape the base to make it look like a mounded sand hill.

Before painting you want to mount the fence posts, black tree, skull heads and water troth into the wet plaster. Let set over night to dry completely. Once dry paint the entire piece Black.

For the fence and water troth i used 1/2 x 1/2 in. Balsa Wood. Carve the wood a rustic weathered look. Give them a weathered dry brush look starting with Burnt Umber and then Med. Grey or Bayberry. The fence wire is floral wire painted Metallic Silver and then i dabbed a little Burnt Sienna on the wire to give it a rusted look.

For the base i dry brushed Burnt Umber and then a sand color.
